Take vitamin C supplements when you feel a cold coming on? The problem is, you can’t actually “strengthen” your immune system, says Dr. Jen Gunter. Diving into the elegant network of cells, tissues and organs that protect us every day, she introduces two kinds of immunity that specialize in recognizing and fighting off bad bacteria, viruses, fungi and toxins — and shares what you can do to keep your immune system healthy.
Think you know how your body works? Think again! Dr. Jen Gunter is here to shake up everything you thought you knew — from how much water you need to drink to how often you need to poop and everything in between. This TED original series will tell you the truth about what’s *really* going on inside you.

So basically; If you take Vitamin C and it helps you get less sick: You had a deficiency. If it doesn’t, its a waste of money.
There is actually a peer reviewed study that challenges the idea that you cannot influence your immune system voluntarily. In 2014, researchers at Radboud University in the Netherlands injected 24 volunteers with E. coli endotoxin. 12 had been trained in breathwork and cold exposure techniques. The other 12 had no training. The untrained group got violently ill with flu symptoms, fevers, headaches, and shaking. The trained group showed significantly reduced inflammatory markers, reported far fewer symptoms, and produced more epinephrine. The trained group voluntarily activated their innate immune response through breath control alone. I facilitate breathwork and cold exposure sessions and this study is the foundation of why I believe these practices are not just wellness trends. The combination of specific breathing patterns (hyperventilation followed by breath retention) and deliberate cold exposure creates measurable, repeatable changes in how your immune system responds to threats. The science is still catching up to what practitioners have observed for years.
so the take home from all this …only vaccines boost the immune system ?… now where did i hear this before…
